She was awarded a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award nomination for 2003's Best Actress. She is 26 and she's the youngest nominated. She received with the Best Newcomer Award for The Russian Dolls at Cannes Film Festival. Walter Smith, her father was an analyst in the computer industry and Lora Smith, her mother was a psychotherapist. Courtney's parents separated when she was seven. Courtney was able to spend time with each parent in various stages. She has an older sister Jennifer who is a marketing executive. She was a graduate in 1985 of Tamalpais High School, Mill Valley California. She performed in the Ensemble Theater Company while she was attending highschool.
